Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder…and sometimes so is Failure

The finish line is here for my first challenge blog and I must say, I am satisfied. Not thrilled. Not so proud I should get a medal but still I am satisfied. Why you say?

All in 30 days. Honestly, I didn’t expect to enjoy this space. In my mind, I couldn’t be happy without spending more money than I had on things I really didn’t need just so that my space could rival that of any room featured in the likes of big time magazines or home renovation tv shows. But as I got to my challenge’s end I began to realize that this is my home, for my use. I have to live here! I just need it to work for me. That mindset made the difference for me making this goal.

It may not be pretty to you, but it’s gorgeous to me. And that’s all that matters. I didn’t fail and you can’t tell me any different. Whenever you can grow from an experience, it’s never really failure, is it? I am so thankful for a useable space for me and my family. Thank you inaugural challenge for a great opportunity to grow.

My challenge contest asked a few questions so here are my responses.

1. What space did you decide to organize and why? I organized a junk room that had become so due to our newest baby arrival. He basically turned our house layout upside down so whatever didn’t fit into rooms go t thrown into this one catch all room.

2. What steps did you take to ensure you completed the space within the 31 day timeline? I started a blog so the whole world would know if I finished or not. Nothing like pressure to keep you motivated!

3. What was the hardest part of the challenge for you and how did you overcome it? The hardest part of the challenge was not having extra funds or lots of time to pour into this. I would have loved to have done more but I think on a $25 budget, I did well.

4. What did you do with the “stuff” you were able to purge out of your newly organized space? I donated most of my excess and created storage for the essentials.

5. Tell me one of your proudest moments during this challenge? My proudest moment came when my husband and children all looked in the room and said, “Wow, Mom!” Great moment.

6. Explain any organizing “tools” you used to help you create additional space and to establish some limits and boundaries? I looked up orgjunkie.com a lot and followed your PROCESS. I used wall space to define areas since I couldn’t maneuver my big pieces much. Purging for me was a huge part.

7. What is ONE piece of organizing advice you’ve learned on this journey that you could encourage someone else with? Have a plan, a deadline, and don’t quit even when it is hard.
